Chiropractors focus on the body’s innate ability to heal. In order for this to happen, the Central Nervous System (CNS – master control system of the body) has to be able to communicate with the body in order to optimise performance. The majority of these messages come from nerves which pass through the spinal column. This is where chiropractors come in: we aim to maximise the structure and function (physiology) of the spine and therefore the body by making gentle adjustments to the spine, pelvis and cranial tissues. Massage helps to augment this process by releasing tissue tension in the body, thereby enhancing circulation, improving healing rates and overall wellbeing.
As a husband-and-wife team who have two young children, we know that time and energy are often in short supply, and so to ensure that we honour your health goals we off chiropractic care and massage therapy as a combined care package, helping you to recover and thrive as quickly as possible. In order to do this, we need to get as much information about your current health status as possible, which is where our New Patient Consultation process comes in; our aims with all patients are three-fold:
- Help to get you out of any pain or discomfort as soon as possible by focusing on the underlying causes.
- Correct and rebalance your posture, spine, and nervous system function.
- Help you to get to 100%.

If left uncorrected, a birth induced spinal nerve problem may not become apparent for many years! But even if your child is well past infancy, the sooner they are checked the better. It has been shown that negative patterns, just like bad habits (e.g. slouching), if laid down during growth, may persist and limit a child’s potential on a number of levels throughout life.
Chiropractic is not just about relieving pain, it is about getting to the root of the problem. The earlier a problem is dealt with, the better the result; as such we actively encourage patients to have their children’s spines checked.
At Cambridge Family Chiropractic we see many babies and children and the reason for this is simple. There is one system in the body that is responsible for accurately interpreting the messages from the child’s environment and deciding how their body should adapt to it. This is the nervous system. It is the master control system of growth, repair and the function of every cell, muscle and organ within the body.
This system can often be compromised with the birth process, an unavoidably stressful event; physically, emotionally and chemically.
During pregnancy, most women experience a number of body structure and function changes that respond favourably to gentle chiropractic care:
- Muscle and ligament relaxation due to release of relaxin hormone.
- Increased weight gain and postural changes leading to increased demand on spinal and pelvic ligaments.
- Changes in weight distribution and associated increased joint, ligament and muscle stress.

Family Wellness Coach and Author
Chiropractic found me in 2005 in Essex as I had been suffering from headaches and wanted a more natural approach to my health and wellbeing. Soon after visiting my chiropractors, I applied for a position there as a Chiropractic Assistant (CA). My previous experiences in banking and retail management, coupled with my interest in business development and coaching, meant that this was the perfect position for me to pursue my new found passion.
In 2009 I embarked on a series of courses in massage techniques from Swedish to Sports Massage, which has led to a unique Chiropractic-led Massage experience that was a signature in our Radcliffe Clinic. This technique is appropriate for all, including ante- and post-natal patients.
After seeing the benefits Chiropractic was having on my own lifestyle, my family and friends soon started coming in for Chiropractic and Massage as part of their lifestyle. My sons, Isaac and Oakley now also have regular Chiropractic checks and massage.
My personal development needs soon meant that I wanted to do more than just educate those coming through the door; I wanted to coach and develop other CAs and MTs. Since 2009 I have been working with my husband, Ed, speaking at conferences and helping other teams in other centres around the country.
In January 2015 I published the first in my series of children’s books; ‘Oscar Ocean and The Big Stretch.’ This is the first in the Big Idea Series, aimed at teaching and encouraging our children to make healthy lifestyle choices from a young age.
